Avandia (rosiglitazone), is drug manufactured by GlaxoSmithKline, and it is primarily used to help patients manage type II diabetes. Type II diabetes causes an increased risk of heart attacks, strokes, congestive heart failure and bone fractures. Avandia is supposed to decrease these risks associated with diabetes.  Unfortunately and ironically, reports have surfaced regarding Avandia side effects that include a heightened risk of heart attacks, strokes, and other heart-related conditions that could be fatal.  Avandia side effects include:

  • Congestive heart failure
  • Heart attack
  • Stroke
  • Bone fractures

It is also clear the manufacturer, GlaxoSmithKline, knew about these side effects before the drug went to market, but went forth with their aggressive marketing efforts anyway, putting profit above the safety of people.

In light of these reports and even GlaxoSmithKline’s own data, the FDA has now required that all containers of Avandia come with a ‘Black Box Warning’ that clearly warns of the possibility of Avandia side effects.  GlaxoSmithKline, however, continues to claim that Avandia is safe when used “appropriately.”

Several thousand legal claims have been filed on behalf of injured consumers – and in cases where patients have died, on behalf of their loved ones – who have used this potentially life threatening drug.

Gruber & Gruber is now considering cases involving Avandia.  If you believe you or a close family member have suffered an injury after taking Avandia, contact us today for a Free Case Evaluation and let Gruber & Gruber help you.
